Asian Payments Events
Some of the fastest growing companies in the world are based across Asia-Pacific, and there’s an increasingly significant presence of innovative payment companies in the region. That’s why our Global Head of Mobile Solutions, David Poole, and Head of Asia Pacific, Morten Hofstad, were keen to attend some of this year’s most exciting fintech events in APAC. In quick succession, they attended the PCI Forum in India, Money 20/20 Asia, and Digital Cambodia. In this blog, we explore the key takeaways from the three events.
PCI Forum India
First up was the inaugural Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council’s (PCI SSC) India Forum in New Delhi, an event filled with networking opportunities and educational sessions which showcase the available information and tools that help secure payment data.
Joined by Anurag Shekhar, MYPINPAD’s Head of Pre Sales, Asia, David and Morten were keen to touch base with PCI representatives given the close work MYPINPAD does with the council’s payment standards and certifications. In doing so, we learned that an estimated $32.96 billion is expected to be lost to card fraud by 2021, which is becoming increasingly more likely given the staggering amount of non-cash financial transactions that are processed each year. This further highlights the need for MYPINPAD’s technology which helps protects merchants and consumers.
Money 20/20 Asia
Next on the agenda was the high-octane Money 20/20 Asia. Every year, the world’s senior leaders across Payments, Financial Services and Fintech come together at this key event. David and Morten spent a busy few days in Singapore connecting with other payments specialists and discussing the critical developments shaping the future of money in Asia. One of this year’s hot topics was how to grow and futureproof fintech businesses, and how to overcome challenges presented by the fragmentation of the local payments landscape in this region.
Another first this year was Digital Cambodia, held in Phnom Penh. The brightest and most innovative minds in digital technology gathered to spend three days discussing recent trends and developments in IT. A common theme was how fintech’s are finding a way to cater for the worlds under-banked with alternative banking solutions.
